PRADHAN MANTRI INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROGRAMME - DHRUV
Sixty students from across India
have been conferred the title of 'Dhruv Tara' after successfully completing the
Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Programme-Dhruv-an initiative of the Union
Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD). Dhruv was launched at the Indian
Space Research Organization. (ISRO) Headquarter, Bangalore on 10th October and
concluded at the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi on 23rd, October.
The students were broadly chosen from class
nine to 12, from all schools including government and private schools. Thirty
science students were divided into three groups of 10 each and 30 performing arts
students into three groups of 10 each. Each group from the science stream was
required to produce a project under the mentorship of experts from the field of
science. Similarly, each group in the performing arts was mentored by icons from
the field of culture and was required to choreograph a programme. All the six
teams were given themes on issues being faced globally like environmental change,
pollution, terrorism, etc.
The Vice President of India, Shri
M. Venkaiah Naidu gave the DHRUV batches to all the 60 students selected under
DHRUV programme during the valedictory function held at the Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT), New Delhi on 23rd October 2019. The Vice President of lauded
DHRUV initiative and said that it would kindle the fire for excellence and
innovation in young people. Referring to the first batch of 60 DHRUV students- 30 of
whom are expensively talented in science and 30 others are outstanding
performing artists- the Vice President said, the collaborative efforts of DHRUV
TARAS from science, mathematics, and arts. Under the guidance of their mentor
will contribute greatly towards nation-building. DHRUV TARA is one of the brightest stars in the sky, it
served as a guiding beacon to the traveler on high seas. He said
Calling for the institutionalization of
DHRUV programme, the vice president said that it should become a movement across
the country. He said, there was also a need to create permanent forums like
science museums science labs, dance, and music courses. Theatre and arts should
be part of our school curriculum.
